Abstract: Almost all procedures used for self-consolidation concrete (SCC) proportioning are predominantly empirical. Mix proportioning methods are based on practical experience from Japan and Europe. For the production of SCC, a mix design should be performed so, that the predefined properties of the fresh and hardened concrete are achieved. The main important factors controlling the behavior of SCC at the fresh and hardened states have been studied, analyzed and correlations have been established that explain the general trends of main factors that should be incorporated in mix design of self-consolidating concrete. Based on these findings a rational systemic method has been proposed for proportioning concrete mixes for SCC.
