Prof. Markus König

Markus König is a Full Professor of Computing in Engineering at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. Previously, he was Assistant Professor of Theoretical Methods for Project Management at Bauhaus-University Weimar, Germany. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering and Applied Computer Science from Leibniz-University Hannover, Germany in 2003. His research interests include building information modeling, construction simulation, meta-heuristic optimization, process and knowledge management, mechanized tunneling and computational steering.

Currently, he is the Chair of the German Association of Computing in Civil Engineering (GACCE) and member of the working group for German BIM standards of the Association of German Engineers (VDI). He is a Principal Investigator of the Collaborative Research Center for Interaction Modeling in Mechanized Tunneling (funded by the German Research Foundation) and the Research Department Subsurface Modeling and Engineering at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany.

Prof. Nashwan Dawood

Nashwan Dawood is currently Director of the Technology Futures Institute at Teesside University, through which the engineering, science and technology research is structured and supported. This role includes responsibility for developing and promoting research polices throughout the institution.

He is also the Centre for Construction Research & Innovation (CCIR) and Professor of Construction Management and IT at the University of Teesside, UK. Dawood’s specialist research area is in BIM applied to construction processes and ICT for energy efficiency buildings

His research has ranged across a number of research topics including BIM technologies and processes, sustainability, Information Technologies and Systems (5D, VR, and Integrated databases), the planning and management of off-site production, risk management, intelligent decision support systems, cost forecasting and control and business processes. He has generated more than 200 refereed journal and conference papers and more than £5 million in peer reviewed grants.

Dr. Mani Golparvar-Fard

Mani Golparvar-Fard is Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering and of Computer Science, and the director of the real-time and automated monitoring and control (Raamac) lab at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is also the co-founder and CTO of CloudPoint Inc., a CES2013 award-winning startup technology company producing marker-less mobile augmented reality technologies for the construction industry.

His work in the area of automated construction performance monitoring using visual data (images and video streams) and 4D Building Information Models has been recognized by several awards including James R. Croes Medal from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for innovation in Civil Engineering, 2013 FIATECH CETI award as an outstanding researcher, 2012 best paper award from ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, and several other best conference paper and poster awards.

He is currently chairing the ASCE Data Sensing and Analysis committee and is on the editorial board of the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, and the ASCE Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering.
